The CEO and Founder of JFA is William Van Brunt.

Mr. Van Brunt is a Qualified Neutral Arbitrator and Mediator under Rule 114 of Minnesota General Rules of Practice for Minnesota for Civil Facilitative/Hybrid Processes. He is a member of the Bar and in good standing in Massachusetts, Minnesota and Pennsylvania. He has 43 years International Legal experience as General Counsel, Corporate and Business lawyer, including 38 years as in-house counsel for global Fortune 500 sized companies. He has tried, directed or managed major lawsuits, mediation, arbitration and government proceedings around the globe. He has served 26 years as a corporate officer for fortune 500 sized companies, of which the last 14 years were spent as General Counsel, EVP and Secretary for Carlson Companies. Working in-house, Mr. Van Brunt came to see the need for a cost effective dispute resolution system for smaller commercial disputes. This led to the development of JFA.

Sam Hanson - JFA Advisory Board

Mr. Hanson is celebrating his 50th year as an attorney, graduating from William Mitchell College of Law in 1965.  After two judicial clerkships, he practiced law with the firm of Briggs and Morgan as a commercial litigator for 34 years, specializing in Utility Regulation, Contract and Securities litigation, and Professional Liability cases.  In 2000, he was appointed by the Governor to the Minnesota Court of Appeals and in 2002 to the Minnesota Supreme Court.  Upon his retirement from the Court in 2008, he returned to Briggs to practice commercial litigation, appellate law, and mediation/arbitration.  He is as Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and Advocate of the American Board of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators.

Mr. Libbey represents several major public companies as well as numerous venture-state and medium-sized private companies.  He is a leading corporate merger, acquisitions and finance lawyer. Well versed in international business, Mr. Libbey has been involved in major deals in national and international markets including Europe, Mexico and South Africa. He also has extensive experience advising banks and financial institutions. He is Chairman Emeritus of Fredrikson & Byron. He is on the boards of several corporations and has served as general counsel of several trade organizations.

Eric J. Magnuson - JFA Advisory Board
Eric J. Magnuson

Mr. Magnuson served as Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court from 2008-2010. Both before and after his service on the court, his practice has focused almost exclusively on appeals in state and federal courts. Over 35 years, he has handled hundreds of appeals involving a wide range of significant issues. He has served as an associate professor of law at William Mitchell College of Law and the University of St. Thomas School of Law, and teaches at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Eric is a Fellow and Past President of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (1998-Present). Eric is a Partner in Robins Kaplan LLP specializing in Appellate Advocacy and Guidance and Business Litigation.

Gary M. Nelson - JFA Advisory Board

Mr. Nelson is a corporate and securities lawyer with almost 40 years of experience as outside and inside legal counsel, with substantial experience managing litigation and resolving disputes for both large and small companies.  Until retirement, Mr. Nelson served as Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Ceridian Corporation, for 10 years and was CEO of Ceridian Benefits Services, a $150 million operation.  As outside legal counsel, Mr. Nelson represented multi-national corporations as well as start-up and medium-sized companies.  Mr. Nelson’s specialty was securities and corporate law,.  Mr. Nelson also was heavily involved with law firm management (Oppenheimer, Wolff & Donnelly, at the time a 300-plus lawyer firm with multiple offices in the US and Europe), including several years as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the law firm.
